Notes

A widespread and morphologically variable species hence the large number of synonyms. Certain populations appear very different from others and taxonomic work on these is needed.

Freshwater (=Inland waters)

Typically occurs in flowing waters of larger streams and rivers. It does occur in reservoirs behind dams but is not common there. Preferred habitats of larger adults seems to be rocky rapids and deeper pools.
