This species is associated with woodland savannahs and grasslands, especially those that contain Elephant Grass, Pennisetum purpureum. When threatened, individuals display aposematic (warning) colouration by displaying their black face and revealing red mouthparts normally hidden behind the mandibles.SANBI is currently in the process of adding more information about species to this database.
