A ubiquitous, terrestrial species found in a wide variety of habitats ranging from rocky outcrops to open Highveld grasslands, usually under suitable cover or in leaf litter, from the coast to 2,000 m (Branch 1998, Jacobsen  and Broadley 2000, Masterson et al. 2008).
