It lives in humid savannah woodland and coastal savannah-bush land-grass land mosaic, sometimes in the vicinity of rivers. It does not generally occur in agricultural land. It breeds in shallow, grassy pans and swamps. It makes a nest on the ground near the water. The larvae develop in the nest and then move into the water.
