There are varied localized threats across this species' range. Despite this it is widespread and common in many areas of southern-eastern Africa and does not qualify for any threatened category.
Distribution
This species is found in the middle and lower Zambezi systems in Zambia and Zimbabwe south to the Pongolo River in South Africa.
Abundant in suitable rocky, fast flowing habitats.
Threats
Affected by weirs, dams and habitat degradation.
Conservation
Potentially useful conservation measures include the support for river health programmes and encouragement of increased use of fishways in weirs and dams.
