Rationale
(Changed due to Same category and criteria)
Rednose Labeo (Labeo rosae) is widespread and common throughout the Lowveld of southern Africa. It occurs in east coast rivers from the Limpopo to the Pongolo systems. There are some threats but these are localized, not causing an overall decline to the taxon.
Distribution
Most common in Lowveld reaches of the Limpopo, Incomati and Pongolo systems in South Africa, Mozambique and Swaziland. Described from the upper reaches of the Limpopo System in Botswana.
A migratory species that is particularly susceptible to the impacts of weirs and net fishing. It is also susceptible to sedimentation.
Conservation
Fishways should be incorporated into weirs where possible. Management of riverine fisheries is needed in many areas. Improved land-use management aimed at reducing erosion.
