Least Concern (LC)

Rationale (Changed due to Same category and criteria)

Widespread in the rivers of the south-east African coastal plain (South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique). Possibly extending inland into Zimbabwe and Zambia along the middle Zambezi. Not threatened with extinction at present as there are no major threats known,it is assessed as Least Concerned.

Distribution

Low-veld regions of larger east-coast rivers from the Zambezi (Mozambique) south to Mkuze in Kwazulu-Natal (South Africa). Inland, the identity of specimens in the middle Zambezi (Zambia and Zimbabwe) and lower Shire (Malawi) needs to be studied. Probably extant in some regions in Mozambique where there are no records (pers. comm. Roger Bill, 2017 ).
