The Natal Agile Grasshopper (Calliptamulus natalensis) has a wide distribution in South Africa and does not appear to be very sensitive to habitat changes. It even benefits from overgrazing. Even though the population trend has not been documented in this species, it is unlikely to meet the thresholds of a Red List criterion. It is therefore assessed as Least Concern.
Distribution
This species occurs in South Africa and Lesotho from Cape Town in the west to Mpumalanga in the east. Its extent of occurrence is ca 530,000 kmĀ².
Data on the population size or trends of this species is not available.
Threats
The species is not sensitive to grazing and occurs also in disturbed grassland (Kinvig 2005). The main threat is conversion of its habitat into farmland.
Uses and trade
The species is not utilized.
Conservation
No specific conservation action is in place for this species and it is unknown whether it occurs in protected areas. The genus is in need of taxonomic revision. Furthermore, there is a need of research into its distribution, habitat requirements, threats and population trend.
