Least Concern (LC)

Rationale

Alfred's Shieldback is of Least Concern because it has a large extent of occurrence (~50,000 km2) and many known locations. No known decline or extreme fluctuations to the geographic range or habitat are known. This species is endemic to a sensitive biodiversity hotspot, the Cape Floristic Region, which makes it of interest, but it is commonly encountered and found within at least two protected areas, Baviaanksloof Wilderness Area and Tsitsikamma National Park, so it does not immediately require any conservation actions.

Distribution

Alfred's Shieldback (Alfredectes semiaeneus) is widespread along South Africa’s south coast, in Western and Eastern Cape Provinces.
