Least Concern (LC)

Rationale

Wahlberg's Clonia has a relatively large extent of occurrence and, due to its occurrence within sparsely inhabited regions which are unsuitable for cultivation and development, its geographic range is not expected to be severely fragmented or to experience decline or extreme fluctuations presently or in the foreseeable future. It is listed as Least Concern.

Distribution

Wahlberg's Clonia (Clonia wahlbergi) is fairly widespread throughout southern Africa, and is known to occur in Botswana, Zambia, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and South Africa. Wahlberg's Clonia consists of two subspecies, C. wahlbergi wahlbergi in eastern South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, and C. wahlbergi maculosa which occurs farther North and West, to Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa's Western Cape Province.
Wahlberg's Clonia has been recorded from all of South Africa's provinces except for the Eastern Cape Province, but it is likely to occur there as well.
