Red List of South African Species

Least Concern (LC)

Rationale

The threat status of the Eastern Oblong-eyed Katydid is Least Concern because it has a relatively large extent of occurrence and, due to its occurrence within sparsely inhabited regions and Kruger National Park, its geographic range is not expected to be severely fragmented or to experience decline or extreme fluctuations presently or in the foreseeable future.
Ten species of the genus Eurycorypha are known to occur in South Africa, however more species are expected to occur, and a taxonomic revision of the genus is necessary utilizing morphological, genetic and bioacoustic markers in order to better define the species limits within this large and complex genus.
