Rationale

The Imperiled Grass False Shieldback is Critically Endangered under criteria B1 and B2 because it has a very small area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) (~4 kmĀ²), is only known to occur in one location, and the AOO and locations are expected to be in decline. It has only been found in one patch of natural Podocarpus forest in KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa. The patch of natural forest is surrounded by active pine and Eucalyptus timber plantations, and is expected to be cultivated in the near future. Due to its highly restricted distribution, even a small disturbance can have a detrimental effect on the survival of the species as a whole.

Distribution

The Imperiled Grass False Shieldback (Paracilacris periclitatus) is known only from one locality in KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa.
