Rationale
The threat status of the Striped Thorny Katydid is Least Concern because it has a relatively large extent of occurrence and area of occupancy, and, due to its occurrence within sparsely inhabited regions which are unsuitable for cultivation and development, its geographic range is not expected to be severely fragmented or to experience decline or extreme fluctuations presently or in the foreseeable future.
Distribution
The Striped Thorny Katydid (Acanthoproctus vittatus) is fairly widespread throughout South Africa. This species occurs in southwestern and central South Africa, predominantly in the Nama Karoo biome. It has two associated subspecies of questionable taxonomic validity.
Threats
The greatest threat to this species is habitat destruction, but due to its widespread distribution in sparsely inhabited regions which are unsuitable for cultivation and development, it is not directly threatened.
