This is a very common and widespread, occurring in many Protected Areas, and therefore not considered to be threatened.
Found in southern Africa, across Zambia, northwestern Zimbabwe, south of the Save River in Mozambique, southwestern Angola, Namibia, Botswana and South Africa (Branch 1998, Broadley 2000). Within South Africa it is found in northern Limpopo, North-West, the upper Northern Cape, and Free State provinces (Bates et al. 2014). The distribution appears to overlap with that of Trachylepis variegata in the south, but this may be due to incorrect identifications and requires further investigation.
