Endemic to southern Africa. Widespread in South Africa, occurring in Limpopo, North-West, Gauteng, Mpumulanga, KwaZulu-Natal, the adjacent northeastern parts of the Eastern Cape provinces, as well as in Eswatini (Swaziland) (Bates et al. 2014). Records from the Kuruman region of South Africa define the westernmost limit of the distribution within South Africa and they are the first records for the Northern Cape Province (Bates et al. 2014). Relict populations are known from eastern Namibia, Botswana and eastern Zimbabwe (Broadley 2002).
