Has a restricted range but is fairly common and not threatened. In South Africa, it occurs in several protected areas such as Ndumo Game Reserve and iSimangaliso Wetland Park.

Distribution

A near-endemic to South Africa, occurring from Lake Sibaya in KwaZulu-Natal Province into Mozambique as far north as Inhambane (Broadley 1994, Bates et al. 2014). In South Africa the species has an extent of occurrence ca. 3,700 km2. Records from St. Lucia Village and Cape Vidal are doubtful and have been omitted the current distribution, following Broadley (1994) and Bourquin (2004).
