Rationale

The typical form is widespread and common in suitable habitat and have no major threats. The subspecies, Acontias kgalagadi subtaeniatus, has an extremely restricted distributions and if elevated to full species its conservation status will need to be reassessed.


Distribution

Endemic to southern Africa (South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Angola; Broadley 1968, Conradie and Bourquin 2013). In South Africa the typical form, Acontias kgalagadi kgalagadi is restricted to the Kalahari region, extending from the Northern Cape Province, South Africa through most of Botswana, adjacent Namibia and southeastern Angola (Bates et al. 2014), while the subspecies, A. k. subtaeniatus occurs in northern Limpopo Province (Bates et al. 2014).
