Widespread, especially outside South Africa and not experiencing any major threats.

Distribution

Endemic to southern Africa (South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Botswana) and extreme southern Angola (Broadley and Greer 1969). Within South Africa it is found in parts of Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Gauteng and North-West provinces (Bates et al. 2014). Records of A. gracilicauda from the Northern Cape and western North-West provinces have been proven by molecular analysis to be part of this species (Busschau et al. 2017).
