Widespread and common with no substantial threats.

Distribution

Widespread in sub-Saharan Africa. Found in South Africa, Eswatini (Swaziland), Mozambique, Zimbabwe and north to Kenya, Sudan and Cameroon (Broadley 1990, Spawls et al. 2002). In South Africa, it occurs in the eastern part of South Africa in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, eastern North-West Province, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and coastal Western Cape provinces. It apparently occurs as scattered subpopulations in the Eastern and Western Cape provinces. Two records from the Cape Peninsula are well separated to the west of the main distribution and may represent introductions (Bates et al. 2014).
