Has a restricted range within South Africa but is widespread and abundant elsewhere. This snake is highly mobile and faces no significant threats.

Distribution

Found from northeastern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa northwards into Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and elsewhere further north to Tanzania (Broadley 1990). Within South Africa it has a patchy distribution, with populations in Hhluhluwe Nature Reserve, the Sibaya area and Mangusi Forest near Kosi Bay (Bates et al. 2014).
