Widespread but endemic to southern Africa, occurring from northern Zimbabwe, South Africa, Eswatini (Swaziland), western Lesotho, southern Namibia, eastern Botswana and western Mozambique, with isolated populations in central Namibia (Broadley and Wallach 2009). In South Africa, it appears to be absent from Kalahari sands and east of the Drakensberg Mountains, but widespread elsewhere (Bates et al. 2014). Some records in western Lesotho require confirmation.
