Found from South Africa and Eswatini (Swaziland) northwards through Zimbabwe, eastern Zambia and further north through East Africa to southern Somalia (Broadley 1990). In South Africa it is found from Empangeni in northeastern KwaZulu-Natal, eastern Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces where it occurs as far west as the Mokolo Dam near Lephalale (Bates et al. 2014).
