Red List of South African Species

Alternatively, Explore species
Least Concern (LC)

Rationale (Changed due to Same category and criteria)

Widespread and common throughout its range with no major threats; therefore considered Least Concern.

Distribution

The confused taxonomy of species and populations allied to Boaedon capensis make an assessment of distribution difficult at this stage. As currently understood (e.g. Broadley 1990, Branch 1998, as L. fuliginosus), the species occurs ubiquitously across southern Africa (including Zambia), although it appears to be absent in the highlands of Lesotho and in large parts of the Eastern Cape in South Africa (Bates et al. 2014).

Population trend

Trend

The population is suspected to be stable.

Threats

There are no known substantial threats to this species.

Uses and trade

Members of this species are collected from the wild as pets, but are largely not traded, and unlikely collected in large enough numbers to threaten the species.

Conservation

None recommended.
