Red List of South African Species

Alternatively, Explore species
Least Concern (LC)

Rationale (Changed due to Same category and criteria)

Has a widespread distribution in fairly remote areas where land transformation is generally not a threat.

Distribution

This species has an extensive geographical range that extends from the northwestern part of South Africa northwards through Namibia and Angola to the southern Democratic Republic of the Congo (McLachlan 1981, Visser 1984, Branch 1998). In South Africa, it occurs only in the Northern Cape (Nielsen. 2017), with an extent of occurrence of more than 230,000 km2 . Because this species is occasionally confused with other agamas (A. atra, A. hispida, A. aculeata), the identity of the specimens involved requires confirmation.
