Widespread and common, with no known substantial threats.
Distribution
Widely distributed in sub-Saharan Africa, extending from Kenya and southern Somalia southwards to Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Eswatini (Swaziland); there is also a disjunct population in central-western Angola (Broadley 1990, 1991, Spawls and Branch 1995, Dobiey and Vogel 2007). In South Africa this species appears to be most abundant in the northeast, i.e. Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal. There are scattered records in North-West Province, Free State and Northern Cape. The southwesterly limits of the species’ range are represented by a specimen collected during the South African Reptile Conservation Assessment field survey (Bates et al. 2014).
