Red List of South African Species

Alternatively, Explore species
Least Concern (LC)

Rationale (Changed due to Same category and criteria)

This speceis has been assessed as Least Concern regionally because it has a large distribution and is not being impacted by any major threats, or undergoing population declines.

Distribution

Up to now this species was thought to have a wide distribution in sub-Saharan Africa (Branch 1998, Jacobsen and Broadley 2000, Bates et al. 2014). Due to the high genetic diversity described by Medina et al. (2016) we restrict the typical form to South Africa (type locality is in KwaZulu-Natal Province), Eswatini (Swaziland), Zimbabwe and adjacent Mozambique, until more work is done on this group. Within South Africa it is found in KwaZulu-Natal, Free State, Northern Cape, North-West, Gauteng, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga provinces, with an extent of occurrence of ca. 617,000 km2.
