This species is widespread, common, and tolerant of habitat transformation. It is therefore considered Least Concern.

Distribution

Found across much of sub-Saharan Africa, across South Sudan, Ethiopia, eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, eastern South Africa and Eswatini (Swaziland) (Branch 1998, Broadley 2000). Within South Africa it is found in the eastern lowlands of KwaZulu-Natal, eastern Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces (Bates et al. 2014).
