Endemic to southern Africa. Occurs in South Africa, southwestern Botswana (Auerbach 1987) and large parts of Namibia (Visser 1984). Within South Africa it is limited to the Northern Cape Province, chiefly along the course of the Orange River but with outlying localities as far south as the Williston area in the Great Karoo.
