Widespread and common, with no major threats; the species is therefore considered Least Concern.
This species is distributed in South Africa, Namibia and southern Angola, eastern Botswana and adjacent southwestern Zimbabwe (Branch 1998, Jacobsen 2011). In South Africa, there is an apparently isolated population in northwestern Limpopo Province (Bates et al. 2014).. The southernmost record in Limpopo Province is considered questionable as it may represent a translocation or an atypical Lygodactylus capensis capensis specimen (Jacobsen 2011), and it has been excluded from the assessment.
