A predominantly tropical species ranging from South Africa, Namibia and Botswana into southern Angola, eastwards to Tanzania (with scattered records in Kenya). In South Africa, it is found in Namaqualand and the northwestern parts of the Northern Cape Province where it appears to be sympatric with Chondrodactylus bibronii. It also occurs in Eswatini (Swaziland) and northeastern South Africa, from the eastern North-West Province, most of Limpopo Province, and in northern KwaZulu-Natal Province (Bates et al. 2014). There is a large gap between the northwestern and northeastern parts of the South African distribution.
