Occurs south of the Soutpansberg mountains in the northeastern parts of South Africa (Limpopo, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal provinces), Eswatini [Swaziland], and Mozambique south of the Limpopo River (Bates et al. 2014). Bourquin's (2004) record in central KwaZulu-Natal is outside the species' expected range and requires confirmation.
The population is inferred to be stable, given that the species is widespread and common.
