This species is fairly widespread and considered abundant. There are no tangible threats within its distribution; therefore it is considered Least Concern.

Distribution

Endemic to the southern Cape Fold Mountains of the Western and Eastern Cape, South Africa, from the Langeberg Mountains in the west to Witelsbos in the east (Branch 1998, Bates et al.2014).

No information on population sizes or trends is currently available but the species is considered stable given there are no tangible threats within its range.

Threats

Alien plant infestation of habitat, afforestation, and poor fire management are general pressures in the fynbos habitat, but these are not considered substantial enough to impact this species at present.

Uses and trade

This species is listed in CITES Appendix II, but it has never been exported for pet trade under CITES so trade cannot be considered a threat (UNEP-WCMC 2017). 

Conservation

This species is listed in CITES Appendix II; it occurs in some protected areas. No conservation actions are recommended.
