Rationale
(Changed due to Same category and criteria)
Bradypodion atromontanum has a restricted distribution with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of ca 2,406 km2. However, its known distribution is within a protected area (Swartberg Nature Reserve) and it is unlikely that the species will experience any major habitat loss or population declines due to common threats such as land transformation. A large wildfire could have an impact on population numbers, however, this species naturally occurs in this fire-prone system and the population should rebound. In addition, natural fires are managed within the Swartberg mountains, so it is unlikely that fires that occur within the natural cycle will impact the species. This species is therefore listed as Least Concern.
Distribution
Endemic to the Swartberg mountains, Western Cape, South Africa (Tolley and Burger 2007, Bates et al. 2014).
No information on population size or trends is currently available but it is inferred to be stable. The population could fluctuate due to natural fires.
Threats
The known distribution is entirely within a protected area. There are no known threats.
Uses and trade
There is no known use or trade.
Conservation
No conservation actions are recommended. This species is listed in CITES Appendix II; it occurs in some protected areas.
