Fairly widely distributed in South Africa, and found in several protected areas (Anysberg, Cederberg, Gamkaberg, Groenefontein, Rooiberg, Tanqua and Swartberg nature reserves, and Grootwinterhoek Wilderness Area). Most of its habitat is intact, so the species is not thought to be  threatened; hence is assessed as Least Concern.

Distribution

Endemic to the Western Cape and adjacent parts of the southern Northern Cape and western Eastern Cape provinces, South Africa. Occurs from the Cederberg Mountains southwards through the Cape Fold Mountains around Ceres and eastwards through the Little Karoo to Willowmore (Branch 1999, Marais 2004, Bates et al. 2014).

The population is suspected to be stable given that the species is widespread and occurs in areas where the habitat is intact.

Threats

The species does not appear to be threatened. There is a possibility that this species could be collected in small numbers for the pet trade, but there is currently to available data to confirm this.

Uses and trade

The species does not appear to be utilized or traded at present, but might be a future target for the pet trade.

Conservation

No conservation actions are recommended; it occurs in many protected areas across its wide range.
