Near endemic to South Africa, also occurring in western Eswatini [Swaziland] (Bates et al. 2014). In South Africa, the species is widespread in Mpumalanga, extending into adjacent southeastern Limpopo, Gauteng, the northeastern parts of North-West Province, and northern KwaZulu-Natal. The record in the Lebombo Mountains adjacent to Mozambique requires confirmation, as does an isolated record at Farm Hangklip (specimen at the Ditsong Museum, Pretoria TM 64842). Several records from throughout the former “Transvaal Province”, mapped under the name ‘Lygodactylus ocellatus Complex’ by Jacobsen (1989), were not included here because their status requires investigation.
