Red List of South African Species

Alternatively, Explore species
Least Concern (LC)

Rationale (Changed due to Same category and criteria)

Pseudagrion kersteni is a widespread species with no known major threats. Therefore, it is unlikely to be declining fast enough to qualify for listing in a threatened category and it is assessed as Least Concern.

Distribution

Pseudagrion kersteni is a widespread species ranging from south to western and eastern Africa, but lacking in dense rainforests. It reaches the extreme southwest of the Arabian Peninsula where it is restricted to the western mountain ranges of Yemen.

Population trend

Trend

No precise information is available on the population size or trend. However, in most parts of its African range it is widespread. In some dry countries, such as Namibia and Yemen, it is less abundant and under threat due to the destruction of its isolated spring habitats (brooks, ponds) by water extraction (Martens et al. 2010, Schneider pers. obs.).

Threats

Given its large distribution, Pseudagrion kersteni is unlikely to decline fast enough to be considered threatened, and no major threats are known. In some dry countries, such as Namibia and Yemen, it is locally threatened by destruction of its isolated spring habitats (brooks, ponds) by water extraction.

Uses and trade

This species is not utilised.

Conservation

No precise information on conservation actions is available but research into and monitoring of the population and habitat trends would be valuable.
