Listed as Least Concern since, although its Extent of Occurrence is probably less than 20,000 km2, it is common and adaptable with a presumed large population.

Distribution

This species is endemic to southwestern South Africa. There are two subspecies: Breviceps rosei rosei occurs on the west coast of Western Cape Province, and on Robben Island; Breviceps r. vansoni occurs on the south coast of Western Cape Province. Its Extent of Occurrence is probably less than 20,000 km2.

It is a locally abundant species.

Threats

It is no doubt impacted in some places by coastal development and by the spread of alien vegetation and agriculture. But overall, it is adaptable and is not significantly at risk.

There are no reports of this species being utilized.
