Rationale
(Changed due to Same category and criteria)
Listed as Least Concern in view of its wide distribution, tolerance of a broad range of habitats and its presumed large population.
Distribution
This species ranges from Witu in coastal Kenya south, through Tanzania and Mozambique, to KwaZulu-Natal in eastern South Africa, and inland to southern Malawi, eastern Zimbabwe and eastern Swaziland. It is present on Zanzibar island. It ranges up to 1,400 m asl at Vumba in Zimbabwe, but it is generally a low-altitude species.
In general, it is adaptable and is not facing any significant threats. However, in the south of its range it is locally impacted by afforestation, the spread of invasive trees (lowering the water table), sugar cane farming, and urban expansion. It is sometimes found in the international pet trade but at levels that do not currently constitute a major threat.
Uses and trade
It is sometimes found in the international pet trade.
