Distribution

Endemic to southern Africa. The species has a largely temperate distribution pattern and is widespread in the eastern and southern parts of South Africa (Bates et al. 2014). Occurs in Eswatini (Swaziland), Lesotho and all provinces of South Africa, but is notably absent in most parts of the drier Northern Cape Province. The range extends to the Limpopo Valley and, after a disjunction, the taxon is again found in the eastern parts of Zimbabwe and adjacent Mozambique (Broadley 1990, Branch 1998).
