Widespread but apparently of naturally rare occurrence (Jacobsen 1989). No known substantial threats.

Distribution

Restricted to southeastern Africa, from Tanzania south to the northeastern parts of South Africa (Broadley 1971). In South Africa it is restricted to the northern parts of KwaZulu-Natal, eastern Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces, and Eswatini (Swaziland) (Bates et al. 2014).
