Red List of South African Species

Alternatively, Explore species
Least Concern (LC)

Rationale (Changed due to Same category and criteria)

Has a moderately large distribution (extent of occurrence ca 26,000 km2), but the range has little impacts from human activities, with large portions of its range included in protected areas. The species is considered abundant. It is therefore assessed as Least Concern.

Distribution

Endemic to southern Africa where it occurs chiefly in the western parts of the Northern Cape Province, from the Kamiesberg Mountains in the south to the Vandersterberg Mountains in the north (Bates et al. 2014). There is a single Namibian record from the Namuskluft Inselberg in the Lüderitz district (Branch et al. 1996, Bauer and Branch 2003 [2001]).

Population trend

Trend

No quantitative data are available but based on field observations (Branch et al. 1996) this species appears to be present throughout suitable rocky habitats, which are widespread in its area of occurrence. Estimates of 10,000+ individuals in the population and 1,000+ in the largest subpopulation are almost certainly gross underestimates. The species is therefore inferred to be stable and not fragmented.

Threats

There are no known threats at present.

Uses and trade

Not known to be utilized in any way.

Conservation

The range coincides with some protected areas. No conservation actions are recommended.
