Distribution

Endemic to the Amathole region of the Eastern Cape, South Africa. The relationship of the isolated southern record (Double Drift Nature Reserve) to Afroedura amatolica (which has been excluded from the current assessment) is under investigation (Bates et al. 2014, Makhubo et al. 2015).

The species is locally common and densities are relatively high (Branch 1998). It is inferred to be stable.

Has relatively limited dispersal capabilities and a restricted range. No known major extrinsic threats.
