This is a widespread species with no known major threats and it is unlikely to be declining fast enough to qualify for listing in a threatened category. It is therefore assessed as Least Concern.

Distribution

This species has been recorded from Natal in South Africa north to Ethiopia, and west to Guinea-Bissau. It is common and widespread in eastern Africa. In northeastern Africa, this species is only recorded from two sites in Ethiopia. In southern Africa, this species occurs at perennial rivers in the humid north and northeast but it is not present in the arid southwest or at the Cape.
