This is a widespread species with no known major threats and it is unlikely to be declining fast enough to qualify for listing in a threatened category. It is therefore assessed as Least Concern.

Distribution

Olpogastra lugubris is widespread in Sub-Saharan Africa. It does not occur in the Cape or indeed in most of South Africa; it is known only from three specimens from the Kruger National Park and one from the Limpopo Province.
