This is a widespread species with no known major threats and it is unlikely to be declining fast enough to qualify for listing in a threatened category. It is therefore assessed as Least Concern.

Distribution

This species has been recorded from Ethiopia southwards to South Africa and westwards to Angola. There are also records from Nigeria.

Threats

Drainage and destruction of swampy habitats due to agriculture, and wood extraction are the main threats. Water pollution is also a threat to this species. However, this species is unlikely to be seriously under threat across its whole range
